Discovery Golf Tours Limited – Golf Holidays in Scotland.

When most people think about golf holidays in Scotland, they immediately conjour up images of St. Andrews and the other championship golf courses that light up the Open Championship every second year.  Of course it would be naive to think that tourists would not want to test there abilities around these golfing meccas, however there are also many hidden gems that can add value to all golf holidays in Scotland.  At Discovery Golf Tours Limited we aim to provide all tourists with the ultimate experience when they choose to purchase their golf holidays in Scotland.  We will seek to highlight the major courses as well as bringing some of the more underplayed and unknown facilities to the golfer’s attention.

The Major Courses

Most keen golfers will need no reminder of the history and tradition of golf in Scotland.  Scotland is commonly recognised as the birthplace of the sport, and her courses normally host the Open Championship golf event every second year, with the Old Course at St. Andrews generally hosting the championship once every 5 years.  Scotland has 4 golf courses on the current Open Championship roster, namely St. Andrews Old Course, Carnoustie, Turnberry and Royal Troon.  Other previous host courses include Muirfield and Royal Prestwick which hosted the first 10 Open Championship events.  With the history and tradition of these venues, it is little surprise that so many tourists seek to include them in their golf holidays in Scotland.  With this in mind, we have included all of the aforementioned courses within our specific set packages.

The Hidden Gems

With nearly 600 golf courses in Scotland, we feel that we must highlight options away from major championship locations.  Scotland has a number of fantastic courses that have hosted European Tour events, as well as the Ryder Cup, and each of these provide a fantastic experience to visitors.  In particular, Downfield, the inaugural host of the Scottish Open in 1973, and Haggs Castle, Castle Stuart and Royal Aberdeen, all more recent hosts of the event, are simply fantastic golf courses.  Kingsbarns plays host annually to the Dunhill Championship and the PGA Centenary course at Gleneagles hosted the 2014 Ryder Cup event.  We believe that any of these courses would be a welcome addition to your golf holidays in Scotland.
